whats what?

Hi,

still new to RC, and wondering what the specs for 1/2a and 1/8a planes is? engine size, span, weight? I have very little space for storage and/or transport so the smaller the better for me!!

Cheers!!

RE: whats what?

1/2a is .049 1/8 doesnt exist but theoretically it is .010 which does exist...our smaller ones are becoming more and more rare but we are a hardy bunch....an .049 will fly from a 20 to a 50 inch wingspan, do you want to race or float around?...Rog

Heck, I am a busy person working at too fast a pace anyway, I fly to relax, so its floating about that I like to do!! I do have a cheapy aerobatic plane for when the fancy takes, but it is rare that it ever would!!

What brand of .049 is used? are these like th elittle cox engines and the likes?

Cheers

Ben

RE: whats what?

Before jumping into 1/2A power, I would read all the information that is available in this forum for all of the details and tips for success. For the most part, running OS .10 - .15 engines takes no special considerations compared to running a .40, but running .049s has more hurdles to jump. If you are just getting started, I would seek out a Norvel .049 - .061 Big Mig engine at auction sites, or a AP .061 through Tower for $40.

RE: whats what?

Thanks for that combatpig. It seems there are very few UK based 1/2a flyers (please prove me wrong though if there are!!) There seems to be a trend of .40+ airframes in UK shops, and shipping from the USA is generally twice the price of the item, many thingd to consider!!

RE: whats what?

True 1/2a flyers are quite rare here too, I'm the only one at my local field and only the veterans would know what it actually means. The rest will talk about 2s and 3s, I have no idea what that is...
