Brodak RC engines

I contacted Brodak about an RC .061 and they said that they are planning on offering one; Has any one herd this?

Nope i haven't heard anything, but I wouldn't be the first one anyway I guess. They do look nice but they really have to change something to make it worth the money...
I can by them locally for about $50 and that's at least $40 to much.... ;)

I do have two of the old ones and are finally starting to get some useable power from them. Both of mine had an error in the plastic part were the fuel line is connected. The plastic doesn't match the brass and the holes are missaligned which limits the fuel draw at full throttle. It is a rather quick fix and then it kind of works. On a cox gray 5.5x4 I get around 15000rpm on the stock head and about 16000rpm using an AP Wasp plug, so not much to write home about but enough to get something in the air...

(a very short video with the engine ruinning can be found here: http://rcuvideos.com/video/CS-061-RC )

Brodaks 049/061 were made by CS engines out of china. A company long noted for some truly bad engines. How bad you ask. Well we think that the CS initials stand for Chinese S...!

The interesting thing is how people are drawn towards trying a coffee can full of these various junk engines instead of biting the bullet and buying a single engine of known good quality.
I was a "sucker" to try the CS .061 at just $30, 13,000 with a 6x3 prop wasn't enough power to fly a 13 oz, 300 square inch "floater". They might do OK on a 4 oz C/L plane like a Lil Wizard?

I have one, its pretty but it'd take a full size servo to move the throttle lever,,never fired it up yet,,so no info on its performance,...Rog

Ahhh, that's standard, it keeps the throttle from changing too much while bench running, and that's probably as far as it will get anyway... ;)

More seriously, it is the o-ring that is squesed to tightly. Putting an o-ring there is great as it reduses the blow by when closing the throttle, but the quality controll is simply too low. Enlarging the carb housing slightly at that end is one easy fix for instance. If you have a lathe you can instead reduce the inner diameter of the o-ring groove.

Did they indicate if this engine would be based on the newer Russian MK II version that Brodak has been offering in place of the CS?

Andrew;

They gave no details of what it would be.
