Hey m8, im using the Yeah racing motor mount & it works great for me, I think your main problem is that u have not adjusted the pinion gear. just loosen off the grub screw & move it up or down so it is allighned, now the cover should fit.
damm that sucks about the shims...
To save a bit of cash look at the ezrun/Yeah racing brushless 35a ESC & motor. thay work a treat. I run them im most of my 1/10 r/c. & on a 11.1v lipo it flys
