that assumption is incorrect
It is printed in each issue of MA (June2011 pg171), the infamous
Graytext $18,
where even the magazine itself says $18 of your 'dues' is for the magazine.
Additionally, last year we had an
AMA comptroller make it simple, in no unclear terms,
that of your $58, that is
$18 for the magazine + $40 for all of AMA except the magazine.
Multiple AMA sources have made it clear
that Opens are getting $18 yoinked from their $58 explicitly "for" the magazine,
not '
a few cents' as you presumed
