I hear ya, I have a hard time paying over $100 for one servo too.
I bought 10 new Hitec 7954s about 6 months ago on Ebay for $75 each shipped. They are solid and fast but some are starting to show signs of jittering already. The entire 79XX series of servos I think are not without their problems either.

Reliable servos are a significantly important component that most of us don't skimp on. I'd hate to lose a 30% or larger plane due a single faulty, "cheaper" servo that went haywire.
