RE: $2.29 special
I was in a thread some time back right here on RCU talking about buying prop nuts at Lowes or Home Depot or where ever and somebody really scoffed and bad mouthed the folks who did so because these nuts were not properly hardened for the job. BS. If I lose the factory supplied prop nut, I'm gonna go to Lowes and buy a grade five nut for about 7 cents and use it. If something strips, I damn sure want it to be the nut, not the crankshaft. The point here is that some of us really believe that it can only work if it comes from a hobby supply place, and that's just nonsense. Titebond will work just as well as Sig Bond. Two part epoxy from any hardware store will work just as well as epoxy from Great Planes. Socket head screws from Home Depot work just as well as from any online store. The LAST place you want to buy supplies is from a hobby supply if you can get it anywhere else. I realize I am opening myself up to flaming for not supporting my LHS or online store, but when you are on the budget I am on, flaming does not hurt as much as paying $1.49 for four socket head screws when you can get a bag full of them from RTL for the same price.
