Sorry to hear about your accident. What clunk were you using?
I have used Walbro felt clunks exclusively in this style of tank and have run tanks dry during flight. 7oz left in tank sounds like you had a plumbing problem and a rectangular tank would probably not have helped. Just sayin'.
