Try experimenting with WPV. (Waterbased Polyurethane Varnish). Dollar Store Acrylic poster paints can be mixed in with it.
It is not "Raw Fuel" proof, but will repel any oils from an exhaust...(Let it dry for a few days)
Bulletproof elevator hinges... I like it !
