They can be used. Just be sure to use a grease pen or a crayon to draw a heavy line down the center of the hinge where it will be bending. This will keep the CA glue from that area which keeps the flexiblity and helps prevent breakage.

Also be careful to not wind up with binding if your hinge line is too tight. I always seal my hinge lines anyway so if you need to have a sufficiently wide gape in order to get the huge throws needed (45 degrees or more!) you will need iron in some sealing material anyway (stripes of monokote).
