Hello Jeff Here,
I switched to 2.4ghz along time ago for the obvious reason. Little or no chance of interference OR someone not obeying the rules and switchng there transmitter on. When there are on YOUR channel. But, I am also an intro pilot. And my Electrastar Trainer that I use for that is still a 72mhz on channel 37. And it works just fine. Other than the above mentioned problem. Soooooo in answer to your question NO you don't need to switch over. I would just make sure that you fly at a legal site with channel tags that you checkout.
