Default RE: LiPo Question

ORIGINAL: jkinosh

ORIGINAL: nitrosportsandrunner

I have an ecx torment that I have been running since day 1 on 2s lipo packs.

while a hardcase is sturdier, softcased packs are fine.

I had a 3s softcase that flew out of a car going 50+mph (forgot to but battery bar on) and the pack flew across pavement tumbling several times. it was fine, still use it today.

Also, on the torment you will need to do some small mods for a 2s 5000mah pack (soft or hardcase) to fit.

those twist locks need to be raised up. unscrew them (from underside) and then place a couple small washers between the chassis and twist locks.

Then, on the ESC tray you have to loosen the foward 2 screws a few turns.

I have a XL-5 esc. But I dont bother with a LVA or cutoff. With any power system you will notice a sharp drop in power when its time to stop running the lipo pack. So, a low voltage cutoff is safer, but not nessesary.

I use the sky lipo 2s 30c 5000mah packs off hobbypartz, as well as the thunder AC6 charger. Been very happy with them.

Would I need to Modify the chassis in order for the wires to exit the batteries properly? I know some of them exit directly from the side of the pack.

yea if the tubs like that
Personally I use http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=14976 in ones like that too bad they are -2 in stock(back ordered)
I use that battery in my tamiyas, my jammin .5 crt, and my axial. They are almost perfectly the same size as a NiMh pack.

I also use http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=14991 but they are like a cm longer, and thicker than a NiMh and those wires are THICK, and a royal PITA to solder.
