yes, definately do not store your skydiver with the chute packed up in it's container.
I do not pack the chute until we are ready to start jumping for the day. I almost always leave the diver hang from his feet and let the chute hang "naturally" how it wants. At the field I will lay the diver on the ground with the chute layed out flat on the ground for the sun to shine on it while we are getting other stuff ready.
