I've owned 3 Corsairs and they have all done this. Maybe the high spine(behind the cockpit) blanks the vertical stab.
I used to fly 1/12 scale Corsairs in RC combat and even they did it. I think its a scale feature
because I have read that the full size F-4U did it as well.
