RE: FPV For King Tiger ProtoType
<div style="text-align: justify;">Thanks DeadTom! I'm looking forward to hearing how the 3D printer works!

Always quote high! Cause I always blow my budget....
The rough number is based on a Turnigy TX with the flash and panel modification, a LiPoly batter to run both the Turnigy and the video screen and video RX, the video screen itself and the attachment/mounting system. For the tank, you have the lipoly battery, the video TX and special antenna for TX and RX, the remote on/off TX switch, the camera and mount system and the Gunner Reticle OSD system. The wildcard is the Headset.
Almost all 620 x 480 headset systems that I've seen are in the $300 plus plus range. From all my reading and discussions, the 620 x 480 is the lowest level for this type of monitor (anything smaller has terrible reviews and comments).
I'm tying to source 4" LCD that can carry a RCA signal and by mounting it in the headset and using mirrors and lenses to project the image to the front of the visor, build a HMD. In the end, it might be a MyVu with a single monocular view. But, those start at $300 just to hack up.
It's like fishing. I once caught a fish that was so big, I couldn't get it into the frying pan......
tsull
PS: I have to say, the FPV battling is an absolute blast. Like you mentioned, it can be a heart stopping moment when you are in the midst of the action and lacking the "god view" that you get from being an operator with a complete view of the action.
I'm hoping to eventually build a complete kit that can be sold which is completly plug and play. To be able to have actual FPV battles, it will take a cost effective kit that many Tankers can afford. Once there is enough FPV tanks, it will become the defacto standard (hopefully). I think it can be that good. My problem is it's just my hobby - I have a day job, wife and family. But, if we keep this "open sourced", perhaps it stands a chance of taking off and becoming the next level of tanking.
If not, still having fun!
Here's several pictures of the MyVu hacked system. It's nice, but the MyVu's start around $300k (and you only get one out of both sets...). Anytype of monocular HMD HUD is really expensive. Not certain why....
