I'm working on one of these old kits and wonder if a Wren MW-44 (10 lbs) be a good combo?
Should be lightweight at least....
Jim
NO.
I tried mine with an early manual start Wren 44 (8 lbs?) at first as it was the only engine I had that was suitable.
It JUST flew with absolutely no reserve, almost full throttle for the whole flight. Nil climb after take off, had to retract the gear to get it climbing.[X(]
I did everything I could to make mine lighter although I did not build it from the start, bought it as a fixer upper in primer from a friend who had started to build it.
You may have a slightly better result with the Wren thrust augmenting pipe (I used the BVM dual wall pipe) & the current Gold
engine is a better performer than mine but I had the choice of a 44 Gold or a P-60 to replace my 44 so I went for the P-60.
Your choice but that was my experience flying from grass, if you have a long sealed strip you may be happy with it. - John.
