I think his goal was to make it appear to be that of either the M5A1 or A3 but had he added another set of boggies and stretched the vehicle it would have looked closer to that of the M6 High Speed Tractor, just getting rid of the shock absorber/reservoirs. It still looks nice just a bit odd is all.

David Doyle and Pat Stansell's book on the High Speed Tractor is an excellent reference book on the history of them.
