I tried the camera hold module, (as you tried to lead me through this once before) but to no avail.
I got frustrated and sold all the old delay/hold modules and servos.

Again, the Y and the hold module are only if I'm using a 4 channel right?

Shouldn't it work without them on it's own channel on the Dx6?
Maybe. Depends on what the channel is progammed to. If the elevation servo channel is programmed to a 2 way switch like landing gear, that aint gonna cut it and doubt that's what he had going on. 6 channel radio still only has 2 sticks in up/down, left/right config unless he had it off a twistable pot? I'm guessing James still had a Y in there off the RX channel. One to DMD and one to servo. The unknown will be any programming he did to the TX to get things to work to his liking, such as endpoints, travel lengths, expo's, rates, etc. For instance on his elevation channel he may have exponential set low (or very sluggish) to be able to move the barrel without firing accidentally.
