If you are talking about the main needle valve out just 11/2 turns then you attempting to start way to lean. Open the main needle minimum 3 full turns from closed for your initial starting position. The needle trick I described above is for the mid range intial set up. This is the screw sticking out the right side of the carb toward the front and it chokes off that bleed hole facing straight forward.
