They key to DV8R landings is slowing the airplane using aerodynamic braking (flaring the airplane just before touch down). Using crow also helps. The landing gear has no effect on how it lands. I've owned three of them and went through a steep learning curve learning to land the first one, replaceing nose wheel struts and nose blocks. Amazingly tough model and very nice flying.
