Default Back In After 25 years

Recently my 11year old son saw some RC boats being run on a local pond, he was memorized. I explained that a long time ago I also had two boats, a SK Daddle 40 and a Miss Unlimited. Since the day at the pond he has asked me all sorts of questions and is showing signs of possible RC Infection. While I know you can still buy both those kit is there anything similar out on the market. I used to love the Sport 40's stuff, and I have no issue working with wood.

Should I just buy another SK Daddle? or is there another V/Mono hull that would be a better choice. I would even be ok working from plans (I'm a mechanical engineer). If I were to go with the SK Daddle what is the best running gear set up? I've searched around and there are lots of options.

Lastly, Im not looking to race, but a fast lake pond boat would be a lot of fun. Stability, and ease of operation are key. And No I Don't want electric. I want my son to smell NITRO.
