For those who know a bloke called Lauri Malilla, he makes his own ringed control line stunt engines and has mentioned that most production ring setups are woeful.
Get the bore perfectly round, a correctly gapped well fitting ring and most might be pleasantly surprised as to how well they can seal.
It's not just the seal though that is vital to a compression ignition engine -- I've been running and flying diesels since the mid 1950's and have never owned a ringed diesel. Seems the manufacturers shy away from piston rings maybe for good reasons .
