OH,....then OUCH !. it's good that you use a starter. I know the temptation to move quickly around a stumbling engine to get it running right. that's where that "training" comes in handy. I still have to deliberately and consciously hold myself back from hurrying,.....I think the hurried urge is just human nature,....and "automatic response" . I've learned to take a "you're not going to get me you SOB", attitude about things like this from getting bit by a table saw many years ago (luckily same as you.,...just a bad cut and some stitches) and working around woodworking machinery all my life. lot's of fast spinning, extremely sharp stuff all the time !.
hope the healing goes well,.... at least no permanent damage like one might get from a saw !. you'll have a different attitude about being close to that spinning prop for now on,... i'll bet !.
