Actually I think the tank was aluminum, its the water that blocks the radiation from getting to the crew. That is why fuel rods are stored in water. Its considered a very efficient insulator for radiation. I haven't seen any pictorials of the airplane probably because it was top-secret for so long and any documentation was probably destroyed long ago.
