Buy 2mm ball links and use 4-40 turnbuckles, they are 2.74 mm and leaves a little meat on the bone. I use stainless steel ones, the difference in weight is nothing.
I drill the ball link and thread the rod in place, remember... one end is left hand thread, ask me how I know.
