Neither of my "trucks" are 4WD or AWD. My 2003 S-10 is 4.3 V-6 powered with a 4 speed auto, does actually really well in the snow. I have a second set of rims with mounted/balanced studded snow tires and a set of chains for it(never needed to use the chains). My 2011 Tahoe Z71 is a whole different animal. Even with all season Goodyear A/Ts on all four corners, it's a handful with a 5.3 V-8 and a 6 speed auto. It's very much like a Silverado, you have to add serious weight to the rear to keep it going or it will swap ends on you really quick. Might be one of the reasons the S-10 is so good, it has a 180lb hard bed cover and a pair of 60lb sand bags in the rear corners of the bed.
