I use a set of dividers or compass with a blade. It is likely that another brand motor will have some shims that will work if it is the same bore. The dividers that I use sometimes take a couple tries for the exact bore size, and .005" is about the max thickness. Beer can, the paint seems not to affect it. The OP may want to just remove the head and clean and retorque the head in increments.
