Fittings are 2mm aluminum. Yes, they bottom out in their pockets. This is what establishes the proper geometry. That and the equal length cables. I'm pretty surprised it worked out as well as it did! I can say that if you match the fitting bends on the plans - and between the matching fittings - it should all work out automatically.
