So, now the question is:
- did he cramp up and became unable to swim?
- did he get too tired to keep swimming?
- was the water cold enough that it affected his ability to swim?
With all that said, all three are irrelevant since the guy is no longer with us regardless of which was correct. This shows how important it is to have the appropriate safety gear or a way to retrieve the boat without actually getting in the water.
