I've had good luck buying preowned FG's at half price. I think folks just give up on them before they're fully broke in. They can be difficult to keep tuned before that happens. No rust with gas, the internals stay pristine looking. One preowned FG21 I bought couldn't have had more than a few tanks run through, but that was long enough to fill the mixture screw with felt particles from a cheap filter clunk. It ran terrible in the midrange rpm before I found the problem.
So far the 2 FG's I flew this season and last season have required no valve lash adjustments and bearings are still glassy smooth using no ARO. About 2 gallons burned with one, 1-1/2 gallons with the other. My other 2 FG's haven't flown enough to note anything, but so far so good with FG singles.
