While it’s not a “beginner” machine, the Hobart Ironman 250 is an incredible machine that will do anything you ever would need to do. It’s capable of adding a spool gun to it for aluminum work also (not included with the welder). We needed a welder at work and my boss gave me a blank check and sent me out to get one. I asked the guy at the counter the same sort of question - “we mainly do small basic repairs and don’t need anything extravagant; what’s a good starter machine?” Without hesitation, he pointed to the Ironman 250. We’ve had it for close to 20 years and I still use it on a weekly basis. Less of a learning curve to MIG (wire feed) welding than TIG welding.

Just my 2¢.
