try the paper test: (does this work for nitros?)

put a piece of paper in between your gear mesh and pull it out. if the paper rips, your mesh is too tight. if it comes out easy, too loose. if the gears spin and the paper stays intact then your just fine. you might also want to check the engine and the way its mounted. try moving it around until the thing works.
