Default RE: OLD MAN NEEDS BACK IN.

Glen, what you don't say is how good you got 20 years ago. I know you said intermediate but what does that mean. If you never escaped the trainer phase then you need to keep your costs low now because of the inevitable crashes (yes plural). That expensive engine you are planning on is more fragile than a good 2 stroke at half the cost. Hopefully, a good instructor can minimize the damage while he is there but sooner or later you will want to fly alone and it will crash. I would counsel the more expensive equipment for later when you are sure you are not likely to plant them. As to radio, however, skip all the lesser equipment and get a good 9 channel. They cost a bit more but you won't need to replace it.

I was out for over ten years and found I could get my "sticks" back using the G2 simulator. Although a hot flier years ago I had several bad crashes that first year back. (and one just recently due to a downwind takeoff. . .a lesson a seem fated to relearn periodically) What I noticed was that judgment became an issue. Hard to judge the landing approach and hard to judge how far away the plane was. . . when not to takeoff downwind. . .
