Seagull Edge 540 (120 Size)
I finally bought this one, Seagull Edge 540-120. I will know everything about this plane soon.
By now I can say I have mixed feeling about this plane. I took it for $250 US and it was the only one in the area I am living now that I could buy without hurting my filling (I hate that feeling when you robbed by some LHS, and I don’t like to look stupid).
The plane looks great but has some issues that could be fixed without a problem.
The plane itself weights 4600g. + 1200g for MVVS 1.6 Engine and 450g for electronics so total will be 6300 g or 13.8 lb. The plane has awfully heavy landing gear 400g (~ 3-4 mm) and together with included cheap aluminum engine mount it comes to 550g. I will probably have to by some carbon replacement for the undercarriage and Du-Bro plastic mount. With such modifications the plane will be around 5800g or 12.8lb.
The wing is tube-type and when fitted to the plane left a 8 mm gap to fuselage – will be fixed by 4 mm balsa sheets on each side.
The plane is hot-glued so I used CA all over where I was able to get with my hand.
Construction looks OK.
Supplied hardware is a total junk and has a sign on the bag kinda – “proudly made in Vietnam”. Tail wheel has a sign “Phoenix Models”. Half of it cam be used probably. Fuel tank has plastic pipes (will be replaced).
The distance between firewall and cowl end is around 140 mm so only MVVS 1.6 will fit. Bigger - longer engine will require moving the firewall back.
I have measured also the wing area (with tail) and it seems to be around 6951 sm2 or 69.9 dm2 or 1112.16 inch2 despite that on the box this figure is around 1000 inch2.
