Dave,
We don't put a default reply to because it cannot be assumed what post somebody is replying to in any thread. I think it is generally assumed that everyone is posting in response to the original post and sometimes more specifically to other posts when a user uses the quote feature.
Marc,
At the bottom right side of the box of your post, there is, in parentheses, (in reply to Scar).
If you do not see this, try on a user's computer.
I object to this appearing in my posts, unless I use the "reply to" button on a specific post. This comment in parenthesis always appears. I think that by definition is a "default". My actual suggestion was to make the last button, the one at the bottom of the thread, outside of the posts, function as a nonspecific reply, or as a reply to the original post. However, it creates in my contribution a comment in parentheses, as above, except with the name of the last contributor. In order to defeat this feature, I have to scroll up to the original post, and use the "reply" button in that post window. Then the message in parentheses will have the name of the original contributor.
If you do not understand, or if you cannot see the comment in parentheses in every post, check on someone else's computer. But you are mistaken, there is a built-in default, and I have tried my best to describe it.
Best wishes,
Dave Olson
