Microballoons are like very small foam balloons (sort of like styrofoam dust) that get mixed with epoxy and act as a filler. On one model I have, they were used to fill in the gap that was left when joining the wing halves together.. where there was not an exact fit between the two surfaces. This filled the space in and added strength. I'm sure you will get more and probably better explanations from others on here.
