RE: car/plane
hum...read through page 2... heres what i get out of it... CG is going yo make it or break it (literaly... that cars toast if you drop it that 30 feet, i dont care how tough yall think your cars are CF is only so strong...) also you will likly need to run a strip or 2 of CF down the BOTTOM of the wing (its easier to contain tension than ion and if the CF is on the bottom its under a tension load and not a compression load) also you will need to mount a small maybe 4"X4" ply block in the middloe of each wing between 2 ribs at the bottom so that you can attatch the bottom of the wings to the underside of the car to prevent the wings from bucling (the avastart designed f or somthing like 12 oz loading... your doing like 40 with extream loadings on top of that from massive G forces and incredible manuvers that a airplane woudlent even DREAM of undergoing.)
heres my idea for the drive. (since you were worried about reving your engine w/o load) you have a clutch right? (i have limited car knowlage, ive glanced over my brothers ofna 4 wheel drive thingy...) if its a slipper clutch with the 2 plate i it i recomend wrappign a rubber belt around the clutch plates and taking that off to a smaller pully (higher revs as car engineds typicly rev lower with higher torque from what i have heard) that way you get the prop spinning in an effective RPM r ange for flight. i would also seriously consider stripping the shocks off your car and mounting stiff wire... it wont be the prettyest of all drives... but youl lose a lot of weight. i would also consider not using your best parts in the car :-D also i would scrap the idea of the avastar wing... drop a carbon boom of the back end of the car and throw a V tail on it with 2 chanle control over the plane part (and yes you will need 2 radios as you cant erm... fly... yea thats it on a car chanle... (id imagin it would really piss ppl off if you shot them down with your rc plane chanle while you were driving your car...)
then after the carbon boom, i would fabricate a set of THICK 7' wings with a compleatly blat bottom and i would probably consider sweeping the wing tips back a little since your already talking about flying a brick (and im not far off in my analogy) then i would ru na SOLID 1/16" carbon plate throug hthe entire wing and sheet it with balsa then id layer the center of the wing (6" either way fro mcenter) with carbon cloth and epoxy to again prevent the wing loading from flattenign the wings around you. then... id consider putting a parachute on it... (just kidding :-D)
