I have done exactly that several times on long shaft engines when the use prop was thin. Once on a modern Rossi and several times on vintage ignition engines. I did however use machined spinner prop nuts which have a machined washer surface. If you are using just a nut on the composite or wood prop then I may have second thoughts.
