Default RE: Evolution 58cc help.

If you want big 3D performance--then you need a prop with big diameter and low pitch. Thats standard deal with a 3D machine. You want as much diameter as possible and a very low pitch. This combo will allow the engine to revv up very quickly and get you up into the powerband. In the powerband on the engine is where you want to get--QUICKLY--and the low pitch allows you to rev quick. The big diameter generates tremendous thrust--and it does it quick, because the engine is revving fast.

What you want, is instant throttle response from idle to full throttle. When you smack the throttle stick--it needs to rev up to full RPM as quickly as possible--while providing lots of thrust.

You can put a 20-16 prop on it--and it will rev up quick--but your thrust will be lousy and your top speed will exceed the airframe capacities.

I'd look at a 24-8 for that engine and see how it pulls. Try to prop your engine for about 1000-1500RPM short of the MAX rated RPM. It will unload in the air and get you close to the MAX RPM for the engine. Thats where the power is.

Drilling holes in the prop:
Buy a prop drill jig from the manufacturer or find out if it is patterened after the DA or 3W hubs--and buy their prop drill jig.

Cannisters:
They are quiet--but they cost you in performance and weight. Do you really NEED a quiet plane where you fly?

I'd use the LEAST restrictive muffler I could get my hands on. More of an "Exhaust Diverter" than a muffler.

If you want huge power and can afford the 1.5--2LB. weight penalty--then put a tuned pipe on it. Gassers react differently too a tuned pipe than a glow engine.

A lot of times--a tuned pipe on a glow engine will ruin part of the running characteristics. Maybe it will run like a bat-outta-heck on the top end--but the pipe ruins the transition and idle. Or visa versa. It will idle and transition nicely--but no top end. Its a challenge--but can be done correctly--if your patient. Sometimes, it CAN'T be done, and the glow engine will just run like a turd with any tuned pipe on it.

Gassers are different. I don't know why. Most gassers will resond VERY WELL to a tuned pipe. It smooths out the transition and sometimes helps eliminate a midrange gurgle. It definetly helps the top end--a lot.

So--get a tuned pipe or another muffler thats as free-flowing as possible. EX: LOUD

Stay away from the cannisters. They are heavy and you will loose power.
