Midwest Regional Float Fly: Sept 10-11. Island Lake State Park, near Brighton, Michigan.
Put on by SKYMASTERS of Michigan.
I am a member of Skymasters and this is our premier event of the year. We have float flyers from all over the Midwest attend, and have even had people from Florida and Washington state come in! The site is a 40 acre clear water lake, 1000 feet of sandy beach, and a 6 acre lawn/picnic area. We have seven stations to fly from, with each station having an "on deck spot" so that pilots can get ready and fly as soon as the pilot in the station ahead of them comes in off the water. We have two retrieval boats always ready to bring in those planes that stall out on the water or worse yet those that suffer some kind of unfortunate landing! We typically get about 100 pilots with all types of planes and occasionally a helicopter on floats. There is also some judged competition (scale, scale sport, and sport), both static and flying.
We also have a Super Raffle (open to anyone that wants to buy tickets) and also pilot prizes (lots of them). In the Super Raffle this year, First Prize is a 96" Beaver from Kondor Model Products READY TO FLY! It has a Saito 180 engine, Hitec Optic Radio, and includes floats and landing gear. It has already been flown and is all checked out. The second and/or third prizes are yet to be announced but they are usually either another plane or radio or something else very nice! (I won second last year which was a Futaba 7CAP radio).
There is also dinner on the beach Saturday night, which you will need to purchase tickets for (available in advance). This year it is an all you can eat pig roast. We also have a food and refreshment stand both days so you won't go hungry or thirsty!
