Default RE: GP Super Skybolt

Uh Oh, bit by the Skybolt, you have chosen well, jedi...The Super Skybolt may be the best model airplane you will ever fly, it does fly like a dream...Depending on your piloting abilities, it might even outfly you...

Now, to the questions...If I were to build the SS with smoke, this is what I would do...First, when you get to the fuse were you are bending a shaping, I would make a trap door in the bottom to hold the pump and tank, the way the skybolt is designed the tank sits on a tray wrapped with rubber bands encapsulate in the fuse, the door is the key, if ever there is a problem, this way you can get to it...

Now, the smoke, serious stuff here, you need to do a search here on RCU for smoke, minnflyer has a great explanation on how to educate you on the proper way to wow a crowd...You need to get the oil as hot as you possibly can to create the best smoke, tap the exhaust as close to the head as possible this will put the oil in the flame, next plan on spending some tinker time on it to get the best bang for your buck, I smoked up the whole neighborhood playing with mine.

The tower hobbies kit you saw might call for a pressure tap in the crankcase of the engine, I don't suggest that yet for you since you are new to it... I suggest a electric pump that runs on a separate battery, includes a pinch valve, and is plugged into the receiver for operation...Also is a little simpler and takes up less space...

As for the first four stroke, your gonna love it...The choice is yours between the Magnum and Saito both will work...If you buy new, you will have break in time and will have to lean the low side as it breaks in, the saito 100 has been out long enough you can probably find a good used one out there already broke in...

You don't need a engine with a pump, one w/o will be sufficient...

Hope this will help you decide, Kneesaknocken
