Access in my installation was anything but easy. I am like you and don't want any more hatches/holes than necessary.

I put a hole in the side of the fire wall big enough to put the sparkplug cap through, then installed the ignition box through the cabin, before I put in the fuel tank. Does make for much toing and froing until it is all together. As I said before, it all came out (fuel tank too), to be replaced by my mag driven Quadra.
