I do the same thing and in the process of it now. Recovering a plane, I just slice off the old ones and re-slot in the same spot.

picture would be good,,,but 1/16" doesn't sound like much... depends..
as for removal..... don't bother with deboner...
if you choose to.... cut the old ones out with a hobby knife, re slot next to the old ones and re glue./
