I fly mode 1 because I learned flying using a mode 1 transmitter.

Also, mode 1 flyers are really not alone! I agree that most flyers in the US are mode 2 flyers, but that's not true for every country in the world. Here in Hong Kong, nearly all of us are mode 1 flyers.
