Default Trying to start engine for first time in model, is this normal?

Hello,
I have tried starting my MDS 38 heli in the model today, first time trying to start it. I opened the main needle 2 - 2.5 turns as per the manual, and i did get the engine to fire for about 3 seconds then it died. My glow ignitor's battery was not charged well so i gave up till tomorrow. One thing i was not sure about though was that when I turned the engine over with the starter, the silencer was spitting a fair amount of fuel. Now, is this normal or is the needle open to much? Also, before i installed the engine into the model, i think i disturbed the idle needle as i thought it was the screw to take off the throttle arm, so not sure where to set this back to?

Any help would be great!!!

Thanks,
Wayne.
