Default Brushless motor for the Shock Extra

I was going to buy a Shock Flyer Extra 330 and was wondering if the stock motor was ok. Do you think I should pay the money for the brushless? Will it hover and do 3D with the stock motor?

Thanx

Here is some good reading on that subject. [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/Maiden_on_Shocky_Edge_with_3D_power_setup/m_1531137/tm.htm]Stock Shock Flyer[/link]
For indoors I prefer the Nippy Black 0508 with 3S 340 pack and an APC 11x4.7.

I have a AXI 2808/34 on my Shockie Edge and the performace is great on 2 cells. No shortage of thrust here. My AUW is 6.5 ounces ready to fly with a Kokam 340 2s1p pack. The axi is a very well built motor. I can not wait to get ahold of a 340 3 cell pack to try. Heard 3 to 1 power to weight ratio with 3 cells.

Hey Staudacher,

How much flight time do you get with the NIPPY and the 3S340? What servos are you using?

Thanks

Dan,

If you use the NIPPY BLACK, you have to use a 3 cell to get the RPMs up

Capt.
I haven't actually timed it but at least 7-9 minutes guessing. Long enough that I'm ready to come down when they start getting low. I love this combo, especially with 3S! [8D] MX-30 servos.

I have a 3s on mine with an axi2208/34 . I wouldnt call the power dumb. It is pretty intense though. I also fly it with a 2s and it is much easier to manage.

I got to fly boom3's shocky with the AXI setup, holy cow, you can flutter the ailerons on vertical!! And do it for over 13min!!

I put a Nippy 0508 on mine, and not near the awesome performance he has, if I did it all over, Id go AXI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

I'm using a 10 X 4.7 prop.

Wow

Just flown my Shockflyer for the first time - this is by far the easiest plane I have ever flown.

It hovers at just under 1/2 throttle. Knife edge is brilliant and KE loops no problem. This is the first plane I have has that is as easy to fly as a simulator. I was even torque rolling at 10' on the maiden - which I have never done below about 100' before. No problem pulling out of a hover. I just need to keep a closer eye on time because I put 343mAh back in after the flight and I hadn't even noticed a drop in power! Hope I haven't damaged it.

Setup is AXI2208/34 Jeti-08 with APC 10x4.7
Kokam 2s340
servos Saturn4.4
JR 700 Rx - case removed
AUW is only 7oz (200gm)

I am off out to give it another test fly - more spectators this time though ...

Hi folks!

I'm in the building process now (Shocky Superstar) with a AXI 2208/34. The building instructions are no good []
How do you mount the engine? Does anybody have a good picture of the front of the airplane?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Check out the brushless motor mounting instructions for the shockflyer at www.hobby-lobby.com. Works well.
