Default NEW: Tensor 4D - Building & Flying!

They are finally here!!!
Most of you know this little aircraft already, but for those of you who don’t, check out the links below:

George Hicks flying the Tensor 4D
http://67.18.81.100/rcuvideos/magazi...gh-in-sync.wmv

Mike McConville flying the Tensor 4D
http://67.18.81.100/rcuvideos/magazi...onville2-h.wmv

I believe this is the finest 3d or 4d??? indoor aircraft on the planet!

George Hicks designed this plane and then won the first Electric Tournament of Champions with it earlier this year.

I think Horizon Hobby has a real winner on their hands here!

Hopefully you guys will share your building tips, flying setups, and stories about the Tensor 4D here!

Maybe we'll get lucky and hear from George Hicks himself (hint, hint!)
Maybe Mike McConville will pipe in with some wisedom (hint, hint!)

Let's start the building!!!
This is all Shortman's fault!!!

I have seen the plane and understand its reputation already. But why did they need to make it so UGLY???????? Some day I will have to get over the apperance and buy one just to fly.

Edge, beauty is in the eye of the beholder (you knew I was going to say that didn't you? ) I think the Tensor is sharp looking! It was designed to fly different so it looks different. I just can't wait until it arrives Monday!

I personally didn't like the looks all that much at first, but its a Biplane and the pics from Horizon with that side view don't help.

I ordered one and I heard they are now in stock and will be shipping I would imagine tommorow.

My set-up will be as follows:

Motor: Axi 2208/34
Mount: Axi Radial mount
ESC: Castle Creations Phoenix 10
Receiver: Berg 5
Servos: 3 Hitec HS 55s
Battery: 3S Thunderpower 730s and Polyquest 3S 850s

As for a prop, I am really trying to decide whether to use the GWS SF 10 x 4.7 or prop down to a 9 x 3.75 so I don't push the motor to hard.

I'm going with the Outrunners this next year. I think they are a giant step in technology. The best thing is NO GEAR DRIVE. I hate the cheap sound of a gear drive after you have spent all kinds of money on something.

I have had mine on order since they were on the webpage and was informed to expect mine by next Tuesday.
I will be powering mine with a Typhoon 15 outrunner, an e-Flite esc and 2100 3 cell Thunder Power lipo.
I don't it is that ugly!!

Horizon hobby has them in stock and just cleared them for shipping, unless you don't make the first shipment I would expect to get one before Christmas.

At the eTOC George and I used almost similar set-ups

I used:
-AXI 2208 26 motor
-Castle Phoenix 10 ESC
- Thunderpower 2 cell 860mA batt
-EFlite 10 x 4.7 prop.
- all JR 281 servos
- JR 610 rx out of the caese

I believe George's was the same except he used the AXI 2208 34 motoe and the APC 10 x 4.7 prop.

Now were using the E-Flite Park 370 outrunner motors. They'll be released very shortly.

Mike:

How will the 370 outrunner compare with the Axi 2208 or the Himax 2025/4200? Be honest.

Thanks,

Yes, please let us know...I believe my LHS has the E-flite 1025kV outrunner ordered along with my Tensor. It's not too late to change...yet. I'm running an AXI 2212/26 on my 36" Yak and it is such an awesome outrunner! Will the E-flite be too underpowered???

With the Tensors due to hit our LHS this week I'm wondering what about E-flight's new outrunners motor's? When are they due? I've heard that it'll be sometime in January before we'll see them. I was hoping to get everything Mike M. recommended but I'm ready to fly. Can anyone from Horizon give us a real date for these motors? You've got us pumped and ready!!!

I'm not from Horizon, but I do work for HobbyTown. The Tensors shipped to our store on the 16th. We will have them tomorrow or Tuesday. The Park 370 Outrunner 1080KV's shipped the same day (16th) and the Park 370 Outrunner 1360KV shipped on the 17th so they should be in our store by Thursday at the latest. Normally it's only 3 day to get the stuff from Horizon but with the holiday shipping, it's taking a few extra days. These are only the FastForward shipments so we only get 2 of each. The extras that we ordered, not on the FastForward program, are still backordered with a January backorder date. So...if your LHS is not on the FastForward program, you might not see them until Jan.

SCORE, i have one of those reserved at the LHS(HobbyTown) from the fast forward order. I just can't determine if i want one with the 1080 kv or the 1360 kv. I have 2 of the new Thunderpower 860 mah 3 cell packs that i hope to use on the tensor. Well that means that I'll go up to the Hobby Shop today tot check and see if they have any in, better yet call them......lol!

i would also like to get a tensor and put my old shocky set up in it 2208/34 and jeti 8 amp .. maybe some different lighter servos to go light the first time ..instead of progressions like with my four soon to be five shockys ... lol would blue arrow servos be enough or no ?

The E-Flite motors work very well. They are a little less eficient than the comparable AXI 2208, but that seems to equate to maybe 2 min flight time. Power is similar, just pull a little more juice. However they are also considerably less expensive.

Mike is exactly right - the E-flite outrunners perform very well at only a slight expense of flight time when compared to the AXIs. But for the price, theyre hard to beat!

E*nealio - for your 3S 860 packs, I'd go with the 1080kv motor and 10x4.7 prop. I've flown the 1080 motor in the Tensor with 3S 860 packs and the 10x4.7 prop - power is awesome!

Many hobby shops received their first shipments of Tensors and E-flite outrunner motors today. If you'd like to get one in the next few days, be sure to contact your favorite local shop or online E-flite dealer first.

Good luck!
