New Watt-age Pitts
Watt-age is coming out with a new pitts kit (mid March 05) that won’t have the cobalt hog and more importantly will have dual ailerons. I can’t wait to get this kit. I see forums where watt-age gets killed will negative posts. I either am too novice or am really lucky. I love all my watt-age kits, of course you have to through the cobalt motor as far as you can and reinforce the motor mounts on all kits. I have an Impress and Pitts and both fly great.
Does anyone else like watt-age kits or is I only fool?

RE: New Watt-age Pitts
HI, I have a Wattage Ultimate and it fly's great. Not 3d great but sport flyer great. I set my transmitter for 6 minutes and go!. It's box stock including the 7 cell nicad. I flew a couple of times with 1st gen lipos and cooked one, so back to the nicads and 40 or so flights later, it's still going strong.
Even the wheel pants are holding up, I usually make the hard surface, but some trips into the grass haven't hurt.
I also flew the wattage Cap some. I liked it too, but a friend made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I sold it.
I'll be on the lookout for the new Pitts. Can't refuse a scale looking biplane!

Guys in the club are amazed by the spins and snap rolls I do with single ailerons. I can't wait to see how it handles dual ailerons.

RE: New Watt-age Pitts
Is the new pitts going to be the same as the old one except with a different wing on top? I just bought the old one when it was on sale and it is ok and I have not flown it but I would really like the dual aileron setup. I wish they would make it in the traditional red/white scheme also. I am going brushless with a geared 2025-5300 or a typhoon 15/10 and 3s lipos hoping I can get it to balance.

I'm not positive however, I think it will fit because they are selling it on the Global webiste next to the orginal one aileron. It's not hard to balance. I hope the new model has more elevator for more 3D.

SFC Hiatt,
First, thank you for your service. My wife & I are both Army veterans & have always had a soft spot for other veterans...........especially recently. What's your MOS? Ours were the toughest MOS in all the Army.........02G & 02B..............that's right.......flute player & trumpet player! Yes, we were in the band. Of course, we still had to go through basic with everyone else. We are very proud of the time we served & now sometimes wish that we would have stayed in. We could have retired in '03
Oh well, does anyone have link to this plane?
Brad

I had a Wattage Giles G202. It flew good. Same as most of the rest.. Threw the motor out first thing. Went brushless. It wasn't a 3D bird either, but a good pattern flyer. She flew good. I flew her so hard the wing snapped. Still was a good bird.

RE: New Watt-age Pitts
I have been flying a wattage pitts for some time now on a mega 16/15/6 with a tp2100 3s pack and 8x4eprop. Nice performance. I modified the upper wing adding ailerons, and the roll rate improved, but the plane has never tracked as well as it did before.
Does anyone know if the whole plane has been redesigned, or is it just the upper wing?

RE: New Watt-age Pitts
I think he has the original TWO aileron version, not the new one with FOUR ailerons.
I did find an ad for the new Pitts in the newest issue of Model avaiation(ama's magazine)
It looks very nice with the ailerons towards the tips of the wings instead of full span.
It still is a one servo setup for the ailerons with a control rods that go to the upper wing ailerons.
Otherwise the plane looks the same beside the new red color scheme.
I'm sure it will fly great with the new ailerons outboard.

Oh yes you can! [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] If the new one uses the same plastic fuselage, you have to strengthen the motor mount and the little "tongue" where the lower wing screw goes into.[:@] All Wattage planes are weak in these areas.[sm=drowning.gif]

RE: New Watt-age Pitts
I was able to get a first hand look at a new pitts with the 4 aileron setup at my local hobby shop( hobby hanger , Chantilly VA)
The plane now uses 1 servo per aileron with them mounted in the bottom of the lower wing. The wings appear the same except the ailerons are more towards the tips instead of full length. The 4 servo setup will require a better bec on the speed control, like a castle phx 35 has(3 amp bec) BTW the web site lists 3 servos needed so that info is wrong.
The only place where they could have made an improvment is the fibreglass battery tube, they left that the same and it doesnt work well with the shape of some lipo packs. ( it does protect them well though) TP2100s fit fine and are a good choice with a mega 16/15/6.
an AXI 2808/20 would work great too.
Kevin
I guess this should be in the parkflyer forum Not the 3d forum.

4 AILERON SERVOS!![:@] And they aren't full span[sm=confused.gif]Well if I got one of these, I would only put servos on the bottom wing and make my own rods to move the uppers.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]If anyone's going to be at the Lehigh Valley Electric FF in June, I'll be selling my older, 2 aileron version.[sm=greedy.gif]

RE: New Watt-age Pitts
Sorry 2 aileron servos, one per lower aileron, then control rods to the upper ailerons!
1 per would be cool but over kill. I meant 4 servos total for the plane, requiring a good bec.

RE: New Watt-age Pitts
If anyone has one in their possession and could provide some pics of the fuse and wings it would be appreciated. I have the old version as stated and am wondering whether the newer one would be worth upgrading too. I finally flew mine last weekend and am really pleased. With lipos and brushless it weighs alot less and actually slows down pretty easily and is easy to land. I assume the fuse is still plastic? I do not think you could drive four ailerons with one servo like the stock setup so if I mod mine I may have to put a servo in each wing. Lastly, what color is the wing? I remember mine coming covered in red and white with the blue decals to be added. If the new wing looks the same except with four ailerons I could purchase it and just add the blue to make it match the lower.

RE: New Watt-age Pitts
I'm considering adding this plane to my collection (would be my first bipe). So now that you guys have had some time to live with it, how do you like it?
