RE: Got my HOT ROD all framed up and WOW!
Ok I got it finished and flew 4 packs through it and all I can say is that it's the best plane I've ever flown, it flies like a shocky but better. I hovered it in my face on the first flight and caught it just like a shocky, it's super stable, torque rolls are a breeze, it has more than enough throws, and hovers at half throttle. But the landing gear set up was a joke, my second flight I decided to just land in the grass and it was a soft landing but the gear came right off, so bye bye gear, why not, I don't have any on all of my other foamies.
Set up is as follows...
pjs 1200
pheonix 25
hs-55's
fma quantum 6 rx
kokam 1500 3 cell
apc 11x3.8 or 4.7 (can't remember which, I'll check when I get home)

ok its a 10x4.7 and I've been flying at a indoor soccer field and its just awsome, I can't keep packs charged quick enough, my buddy just ordered the small version of the hot rod, I saw one fly at the ETOC and it rocked, the big one that I have reminds me of a 40%er, everything happens in slow motion.
Oh and forgot to mention the weight, it's 1 pound 3 oz's flying weight.

no updates other than I used a carbon fiber mount system (see pic). this is the mount on a shocky but you get the idea. And I don't use landing gear, just catch it from hover.
Also hobby lobby has a small version of the HOT ROD, its about the size of a shocky but flies alot better.
They are both just awsome, I'm going to retire most of my other foamies and just make a bunch of hot rods (copy the pattern) and use my own depron.

RE: Got my HOT ROD all framed up and WOW!
I put together my hot rod a month a go and I'm not too happy with it. It has a ton of power with the pjs 1200 but seems very slow to respond to inputs. The radio and equipment work fine but in the air it hesitates when I give it commands. I also did'nt add any right or down thrust, instructions never mentioned it, and I had a hell of a time getting it straightened out at full throttle. I realized later it was a power thing and to back off to get it to straighten out. My landing gear broke as well with a very soft landing. The gear is a joke. I never added the right and down thrust but instead I'm taking out all equipment and putting it all in a mini funtana which will be a much stronger plane. I had a ton of flutter too. I beveled the parts as needed and still could'nt get my control surfaces to move down without leaving a gap between things. I was just not happy at all although I think the plane is probably better than I give it credit for I just did'nt want to mess with it anymore. I think the instructions are horrible too. You can get it together but they could have done a much better job explaining things. Great planes does this really well. My hot rod will be given away to someone at my club once it is stripped of the electronis and motor and I hope they have better luck with it than I did.

Sorry you feel that way, my big hot rod is great except it needs more aileron, now the mini hot rod has bigger ailerons and is totally kick azz, I have 4 mini's now (copies of the mini hot rod kit).

I flew my Hot Rod for the first time today. WOW! Best plane I have ever flew. I know that sound like a big statement but it is true. Unfortunately my landing gear broke on the first flight. Kinda disappointed in that.
Flying though was awesome. I have never hovered that low and easy. I am impressed!
