Default Depron shortage, and alternatives?

Incase you guys didnt know. There is a HUGE shortage of 6mm Depron, both the grey and white versions.
All our depron comes from one place. Depron B.V. in the Netherlands. They own the patents, trademarks, etc, and are the only ones that make the stuff. It comes to America and ships out through two distributors. One called DepronUSA, and the other called Aerocomposites. Well, Aerocomposites just announced that it would no longer be carrying depron, and DepronUSA is currently out of stock of all 6mm depron. NO ETA on when more will arrive.

So for all of us here in the states, there is no 6mm depron.

Complete bummer for me because my new kit that I planned on offering is now on hold because I cant get supplies to cut them out of.

So, I did a little searching trying to find depron alternatives.

FFF or Fanfold foam -
Low density blue foam sold at Lowes and Home Depot
Advantages are that its super cheap
Disadvantages are that it comes laminated with a plastic sheath, it has pot-marks all over it, and its normally damaged in the store.

Zepron -
A softer more pliable version of Depron due to its less dense construction.
Advantages - Its available now.
Disadvantages - needs additional reinforcement to maintain rigidity.

Cellfoam 88 -
Supposed to be JUST like depron, and is marketed by midwest.
Advantages - just like depron, but readily available.
Disadvantages - cost, tends to be more expensive

So here's a question. Have any of you used Cellfoam 88, and if so how would you compare it to depron? Is it as rigid as Depron? Weight vs Depron?

Thanks in advance.

Bill, Grab all 10 sheets if he's willing to sell them. I'll bring the money tonight if you're flying. I got a new plane you have GOT to see.

I have just had an email back saying they don't ship out of the uk but i will find out how much it would cost me to ship out if any body would be interested i know it would cost me Ā£59.93 which would work out at 107.903 USD this is not includeing shipping and this is for

20 DepronĀ® panels 0.80m x 1.25m x 6mm

59.93 GBP United Kingdom Pounds = 107.903 USD United States Dollars

1 GBP = 1.80048 USD 1 USD = 0.555409 GBP

I am waiting to find out what colours they do if you think that this might be a bit expensive then i will just forget about it i hope this can be of some help i will look around and see how much it would cost in shipping if some one could give me a couple of diffrent places over there that would be best to ship to that would be great.

The shipping is going to be whats expensive, not the depron.

We normally can get depron here for between $4-5 a sheet shipped.
So the price that you have is pretty good for that size sheet.

Normally most places ship depron in boxes 60mm thick. Which is 10 sheets. So most likely, thats two huge boxes during shipping. Plus your shipping them from overseas. You'll probably figure about 25-30 bucks per box for shipping(rough estimate). Now its about 8-9 bucks per sheet of depron. Thats a little pricey.

Last time I checked regardless of weight, a 1m x 1m box gets charged "oversized" fees too.

Id have to check on shipping, but I think the shipping costs will make it too expensive.

Thanks for the offer though.

Cell foam is more dense than depron BUT because Cellfoam is 5mm not 6mm the weight per square foot is pretty much bang on the same.
Cellfoam is slightly tougher, and has better paintability (it reacts less to solvents in paint) and i've actualy painted it with normal vehical touch up pressure packs, just make sure you do light coats and hold the can about 12 inches away.

Whew! Thank goodness. I was starting to have flashbacks to the Great Nitro Shortage of 1989.

What did we use that stuff for, again?

I'm more concerned with the price of gas than foam.
