Default Extreme Flight E-YAK!!!

SWEET!!! Chris from EF said they are going to be going to be releasing a Mini E-YAK that is going to be a small scaled down version of their 50 cc yak...
Around the same size as their E-Extra! Release date is going to be some time around August

discuss!

AUW is supposed to be around 37 oz.
The extra comes in at around 33 0z.

I'm guessing they are going to reccomend the same prop/motor combo as the did for the extra...

I have the Extra and I am buying another because quality like this is hard to come by. If they build the Yak like the Extra I am buying two.. Chris really knows how to build em. I just started the Brio10 and in comparison to the Extra it is crap. I am glad to spend a few more bucks to have an exceptionally well designed and built model. I have spent quite a bit of time fixing warped ailerons and other peices on the Brio. The Extra was done in one night without having to correct any construction issues.

47" span, 44" length, 425 sq. in., 35-38 oz.

A couple of videos. The first one is from the noon time demos taken by Cliff Sr. The second one is a teaser from Fred Midgett who is producing Chris's promo video. Fred does excellent work..check out his other videos.

I feel that my Extra is a little underpowered with the torque setup. Since the Yak is a little heavier than the extra, I think it will definately need some more juice. That is unless you just plan to do some sport flying with it.

Just my thoughts.[8D]

Chris,
What packs are you running? Mine has more than enough power with the stock setup. Chris's is as well....not quite foamy power..but close. The batteries are the first thing I look at. If they arent holding voltage under load, it can easily make even the best of planes/power systems fly like dogs.

If I recall, the Yak is using the next size up motor. Still on a 3S though. Chris flew with some 2100's, but it really performed with a Flightpower 20c 2500's in there.

a 3S2P 2640 would do it. You would have a safe 50a burst rate.

I didnt mean it exactly as my post stated. I meant that from what I could see of the structure of the plane it looks like it is built along the same lines as the extra and had a yak cowl on it.
I was not trying to slam the plane by any means because I love my extra and will hopefully be one of the first owners of one of the yaks.

I fly my Extra with the bone stock setup and with the 12x6E prop my has plenty of power with a lot to spare. I think that most of my flight time is spent in the 1/2 to 2/3 range only bliping WOT here and there.

The one thing that I would really like to see different on the yak versus the extra would be a more straight line linkage on the ailerons. That gave me trouble at first on my extra.

Does anyone know what servos Chris used on the plane. I started out with Hitec 56's on mine and killed two of them. I changed them out with Hitec 65mg's and am so glad I did this, they have made a huge difference and seem to handle what this plane can dish out a lot better.

Chris
Perplexing??? Mine is climbing at half throttle with the Torque motor and Airboss ESC. I run the TP pro lite 3S 2100 battery. If you are running something similar you are losing power somewhere. That Torque motor should be just throwing that plane around.

Make sure your batteries are in tip top shape. With the stock setup I pull 28-29 amps with a APC 12/6E. If you want insane power, just switch to a 13/6.5E & pull 36.6 amps, & use WOT quite sparingly. I also changed to a 40 amp ESC, because the Airboss 35 was overheating. I can't just blame the 35 ESC, because i wasn't using good throttle management. I fly IMAC style, using a lot more throttle than I probaly should. Old habits are hard to break. I had a friend fly it, he's an accomplished 3D pilot, for a full 10 min 3D routine & the 35 amp ESC was just comfortably warm. My .02.
